Revitalized Daniil Medvedev Claims Maiden Trophy in 882 Days
Nineteen of the Russian's 21 victories have been earned on hard surfaces
A comeback Daniil Medvedev won his maiden trophy for over two years with success over Frenchman Moutet in the competition final.
Medvedev, a former top-ranked player, has experienced a difficult season, winning just a single victory at the Grand Slams and undergoing a setback at the American major.
Medvedev's varied form on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serve in particular - led to him falling of the top ten and eventually parting ways with long-term mentor Cervara.
Presently training with Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has gradually advanced in the last few weeks - culminating in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over opponent Moutet.
This marks Medvedev's initial championship following the Rome competition and first on a hard surface after that period of the previous year.
Victory also means Medvedev has won 21 titles at twenty-one various events.
"For the first time I am participating in a tournament with my both daughters together, so to secure a title is particularly special," commented ranked player Daniil Medvedev.
"This victory is in honour of my younger daughter Victoria, because the first title I got when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."
The athlete, the past champion, had failed in his last six finals, featuring in the German tournament earlier this year.
His counter-punching strategy and frequent emotional displays on court had prompted observers to doubt if his ability to compete at the top level was finished.
But the athlete has altered his approach in the past month, attempting to come to the net and perform positively, reinforced by an better serving game.
He recovered from a deficit in the first set against the difficult Moutet, securing four of the final five points to gain the advantage.
Both players exchanged break points in the second set before Moutet, bidding for his first ATP Tour victory, took control to force a third set.
The opponent rescued four early break points in a competitive final set before Medvedev won the break to 15 to close out the victory.
Appropriately, Medvedev secured the win with a rally at the net area, with his opponent failing to control a shot after a lengthy match.
