Police stated they were contacted by a man who found a automobile in Hanau marked with red-colored substance

Around 50 cars have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by police.

Vehicles, building surfaces and postal boxes were marked, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they announced in a official communication.

Law enforcement say they were notified late on Wednesday night, when a individual discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored liquid.

The fluid had been placed in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they reported.

Officers then discovered multiple other marked automobiles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.

Swastikas are banned in Germany under laws outlawing the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.

Police state early analysis indicate the liquid was probably human blood.

"At present there remains no indication as to its origin; officials are presently not informed of any injuries in association with the occurrence," they added.

City officials said they were working "to resolve the incident" and have requested to the residents for details.

A high-ranking political figure said the attack rendered him stunned and needed to be resolved promptly.

"This incident hits the core of Hanau and revives the trauma of the far-right attack five years ago," he wrote on social media, mentioning the death of nine people by a shooter targeting people of foreign heritage in February 2020.
